Increased magnesium requirements
“Normally” we need roughly 300 mg of magnesium per day.* However, there are situations in life in which our magnesium requirements increase, for example, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Certain diseases also increase our magnesium requirements. In many cases, it is therefore necessary to ensure a specific magnesium intake, in order to avoid giving a magnesium deficiency the chance to set in.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women have an increased magnesium requirement as the unborn child, or the infant, is supplied with magnesium through the mother.
During pregnancy, the daily requirement is 310 – 350 mg of magnesium, and breastfeeding mothers should consume 390 mg of magnesium daily.
